The Scarsdale Public Library offers a Zoom presentation by Ashley Jakubowicz, a junior at Scarsdale High School, Thursday, July 2, at 7 p.m. The Fast Fashion Industry — inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends — has a disastrous impact on the environment. It is the second largest polluter in the world, only after the oil industry. Jakubowicz will discuss how the fashion industry affects water pollution and water consumption, increases waste in landfills and microfibers in the ocean, uses toxic chemicals, and leads to soil degradation, desertification and deforestation. In addition, she will share ways in which you can reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

Jakubowicz is interested in STEM and is actively researching sustainability and its impact in the fashion industry.

Register at and include your email. A Zoom invite will be sent the day of the program.
