I was delighted to read the article about Dr. Jacob Appel [“You don’t have to be a doctor to talk medical ethics,” Oct. 4]. I was his physical education teacher at Heathcote School many years ago. I have often recounted an incident from when Jacob was a fifth grader. He came up to me after class and said, “Mr. Resnick, I like you but I really prefer academic education to physical education.”

Congratulations, Jacob, on your incredible achievements. You certainly proved your point in a big way. Bravo!
